Governance is a serious undertaking and has become increasingly complex. You have some legal obligations to meet that you cannot contract out to management. Every board member must contribute and you need to operate as a team.

I have years of experience as a board member at schools and Not for Profits and served as a board chair and deputy chair and years of providing training to school boards. I even wrote a dissertation on effective governance as part of completing my MBA.
I am a member of the Institute of Directors and continue to learn about being an effective trustee. I provide quality training to new and experienced board members, and review your current governance practices.

I have studied, coached and trained leaders. The common denominator of organisation success is effective leadership so it is critical to find, keep, and develop leaders and make them great.

Appointing a school principal or CEO is the most important role a Board has. It is therefore critical they employ a consultant who understands how to manage and lead the process.  At the end of the day, it is the board’s role to appoint the right person.

I provide sound processes and insights into what to consider and to ensure the process is thorough. EQ is more important than IQ when it comes to leadership, and is too often overlooked when making appointments. At the same time, too often, principals are appointed on the basis of charisma presented at interview.
Relying on interviews and referee checks are not enough for senior level appointments. My process includes psychometric testing to ensure an offer of employment comes through robust selection procedures.
